Sen. Brown has raised the most money from lobbyists — $430,226 – during the 2018 election cycle, according to new data from the Open Secrets database.

Republican National Committee (RNC) spokeswoman Mandi Merritt responded in a statement on Wednesday: “This new ranking puts Sherrod Brown’s hypocrisy on full display, proving he is the ultimate D.C. insider that cozies up to lobbyists.  After spending over four decades in Washington D.C., Brown is the epitome of a career politician beholden to special interests that looks out for himself over the interests of Ohioans.

Sen. Brown is considered one of the most liberal members of the Senate. He is opposed in the election this November by conservative Republican Rep. Jim Renacci. This election may be critical in determining whether Republicans can maintain control of the U.S. Senate to support the policies of President Donald Trump.

The big question: Will voters who supported Donald Trump in the 2016 elections realize that he needs voters to elect Republican candidates in 2018 to enable many of his efforts to continue?
