On February 2, 2018, The White House authorized the release of the House Permanent Select Committee memorandum of January 29, 2018, on the “Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act Abuses at the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.” The letter from the White House was signed by Donald F. McGahn II, Counsel to the President. In part the letter of authorization to release the memorandum said, “The White House review process also included input from the Office of Director of National Intelligence and the Department of Justice.” Also, “Consistent with this review and these standards, the President has determined that declassification of the Memorandum is appropriate.” The complete and verbatim letter of the HPSCI is provided here. It has been stated by several Democrats that the memo should not be released. It’s possible that a Democratic memo will be released in the future.
